Maranda Alumni Capt. Apollo Malowa burial set for 4th Nov. 2017

For the third day, distressed relatives and friends of victims of the Saturday helicopter crash gathered on the shores of Lake Nakuru, anxiously waiting to see the bodies of their loved ones. The families hoped that the search would bear fruit. The first body was recovered at around 11am on the north-eastern side of the lake, where parts of the chopper’s debris were recovered on Sunday. Hours later, another body was recovered near the same location. The two bodies were taken to Umash Funeral Home on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. Rescue teams comprised officers from the Kenya Navy, Kenya Police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service and other professional divers.

The teams’ boats combed through six marked points of the lake for the better part of Monday. The campaign chopper had five people on board including three members of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s communication team — Mr Sam Gitau, Mr John Mapozi and Mr Anthony Kipyegon — and Ms Veronicah Muthoni as well as the pilot, Mr Apollo Malowa. 

Capt. Apollo Malowa who was a Maranda high School alumni class of 2001.  He was the best helicopter pilot in the Flex Air Charters and also one of the directors of the company that most politicians and individuals preferred him airlifting them in East Africa. Apollo has also been a pilot of Kenya Air force. He was contracted by the now the president of Tanzania H.E Maghafuli during his campaign trial. He was also contracted by the Government of Uganda to be airlifting H.E Museveni during his campaigns. In 2007,Captn Apollo was the pilot of of Raila Odinga throughout his campaigns and also during his official duties in kenya as the Prime Minister. In 2013, Captn Apollo was the pilot of H.E the president Uhuru Kenyatta throughout his campaign trial and also the official pilot to him and the deputy president William Ruto during state official duties for the last 4yrs. Captn Apollo during the 2017 campaigns before 8th August was the official pilot to Women Rep Wangui Ngirici for a period of almost 9 months. After the August 8th polls Captn Apollo was contracted by Jubilee party official pilot to jubilee team in their campaigns for presidential elections. 

Among other personalities Captn Apollo has air lifted are Musalia Mudavadi, the Late Nicolas Biwott, several Cabinet secretaries in Jubilee government, Jimmy Wanjigi, and William Kabogo,former president of Tanzania Kikwete etc. Captn Apollo was one of the highly experienced,creative and most trusted helicopter pilot in East Africa. If you never knew, Capt. Apollo once hit the media headlines late last year when he landed a copter in the middle of a busy highway somewhere in Bondo just to say hi to his mother while Raila Odinga was on board.

From 24th October Maranda High School alumni members started a small kitty to raise funds that will see Capt. Apollo gets a decent send off that befits the status of a captain. Led by Felix Ochieng Oseki, the Maranda Alumni have agreed to support the family during this trying moments. By the time of going to press the group had raised over ksh. 24,000. Capt.
