Former High Court judge Samuel Oguk dies after operation on broken hip

A long serving High Court judge, Justice Samuel Oguk died Saturday at the Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa.

Source told the Nation that Justice Oguk collapsed on Tuesday in Mombasa and broke his hip bone.

“Doctors at the hospital scheduled an operation for Thursday to repair the fracture but this was postponed to Friday,” the source said.

The judge succumbed to his injuries Saturday morning after developing some complications.

He leaves behind two wives and six children.

Mombasa Law Society of Kenya Secretary-General Benjamin Njoroge confirmed the death.

“After the operation on Friday, we visited him in the evening and he looked weak but jovial,” he said.

Mr Njoroge said after retiring from the bench in Nairobi, Justice Oguk returned to Mombasa to practice as a lawyer.

A family spokesman, Justice Oguk’s nephew, Nick, said they were still trying to come to terms with the death.

He said funeral arrangements would be made soon.
