We the family of John and Esther Gathungu, would like to express our deep appreciation and sincere thanks for your kindness after the loss of our beloved Lucy.  Your prayers, visits, donations, emails and phone calls provided great comfort in our time of grief.

We thank Dr. Verma and the entire team at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital who cared for Lucy over the years.  We thank the management and Staff of Dumfries Health Center who supported Lucy during her employment and after her passing.  We would like to thank the clergy at Fort Belvoir, Rev. Father Ben Opara, and Chaplain (MAJ) Jason Nobles who ministered to Lucy and our family from the time she was admitted until her final moments.  We would like to thank Pastor and Mrs. Lewis who were introduced to Lucy while she was admitted and took the lead in her funeral service in Virginia.  We would like to thank A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home in Fredericksburg for their professionalism and support during a very complicated time.  We would like to thank the Immigration staff at the Kenya Embassy in Washington D.C.

We send our sincere gratitude to Kenyans in the Diaspora, most who did not know Lucy but donated funds that enabled us to honor her wish to be buried at home.  Your donations through http://www.youcaring.com/memorial-fundraiser/lucy-s-final-wish/231215 continue to soften the financial worry. We especially thank Mr. Samuel Kibe, Mr. James Sang, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arungah, Mr. Frank Onyango, Mrs. Loyce Muuya, Pastor James Njoroge, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Abdul Rahman, Kenyan Women Support Group led by Endita Kiarie and Mr. Isaac Kariuki of Diaspora Messenger.  We particularly thank many of our friends and family who are not mentioned here by name; we know who you are and so does our good Lord.

We want to acknowledge and appreciate our family and friends in Kenya especially all Thamaini and Githinji families, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Githaiga, our church families and all who contributed in cash and kind and without whom Lucy’s journey home would not have been complete.

Our family will forever be grateful.  We pray that “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace ( Numbers 6:24-26).
